Nipper Summer Sea/Beach training and New Nipper registration will start on Sunday June 14th at 11:30 am in the Whitestrand Miltown Malbay.
All Nippers are welcome.
Training in July and August will take place every Sunday, Tuesday and every other Thursday.
Junior Nippers 8-11 years (Born 2015 - 2018)
The Munster Regional competition for Junior Nippers will take place at our own Kilkee beach, Co. Clare on Saturday August 8th.
There is no National competition for Junior Nippers.
While the Junior Nipper training will be run in a competitive format the Junior Nipper Munster Regional competition will be a fun event with no individual event placings being recorded. All participants will receive a participation medal.
Attendance at the Junior Nipper Munster Regional competition is compulsory.
Senior Nippers 12-14 years (Born 2012 - 2014)
The Munster Regional competition for Senior Nippers will take place at Kilkee Beach, Co. Clare on Saturday August 8th.
Attendance is compulsory.
The National competition for Senior Nippers will take place in Brittas Bay, Co. Wicklow on Saturday August 22th.
Attendance is compulsory if your Nipper qualifies for the Nationals.
Nipper Sea/Beach training is not about teaching your child how to swim but rather, teaching your child Surf Lifesaving skills.
These skills are taught in a competitive format and all Nippers get to display skills gained at the Regional and National competitions.
Nipper membership is primarily dependent on:
1. Competitors being confident in the open water.
2. Competitors being able to swim front crawl with face mainly in the water breathing to the side.
· A Junior Nipper must be able to swim approx. 100m front crawl.
· A 12 year old Senior Nipper must be able to swim 200m front crawl.
· 13 & 14 year old Senior Nippers must be able to swim 300m front crawl.
3. Senior Nipper Competitors committing to competing for their club at the Regional and National competitions (if they qualify for the National competition)
Nipper Summer Sea/Beach registration 2026 is now open.
To register – Download the ClubZap App. and follow Clare Water Safety.
Go to 'Clubhouse' (Bottom LHS) on the ClubZap App. and then into 'Membership'. From there choose ‘Renew Your Membership’ if you were a 2025 Summer Nipper or 'Become a NEW member' and select the 'Summer Surf Lifesaving Membership 2026' package and complete the registration.
Register all the family (Nipper, Junior, Senior, Master) in one go as there are discounts for multiple family members joining. The discount cannot be applied if family members are registered at different times.
14 year olds can train as both a Nipper and a Junior but should register only once, as a Nipper.
If your Nipper is new to Sea/Beach training, they can register but they must be assessed before commencing training. Assessments will take place on Sunday June 14th at 11.30 am in the Whitestrand Miltown Malbay (Any registration fees paid will be refunded if your child is unable to complete the assessment).
Please, please, please do not bring your child for assessment unless you are fully confident that your child will pass the assessment. YOU should bring your child to the sea and get them to practice before the assessment. It can be very disheartening for the child if they are unable to satisfactorily complete the assessment and can adversely affect their confidence in the sea.
Nipper Beach 2026 Chat Group

Go to 'Chat' on the ClubZap App. and tap the chat bubble (Bottom RHS). You can then request to join the 'Nipper Beach 2026' chat group.
Training info. with date, time and location of the next training session will be posted in the chat group. Late notice training changes due to weather conditions will also be posted here.
